Fishing Mirror Lake: what to know
Mirror Lake is the signature stop on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (UT-150) in the High Uintas, 10,000 feet up and an hour and a half east of Salt Lake. It's a small, heavily stocked lake with a campground, a paved trail around it, and a view of Bald Mountain — the classic family-fishing destination in the Uintas, with brook trout, rainbows, and tiger trout.
The highway opens when the snow allows, typically June, and the lake is ice-free by late June. July through September is the season; the DWR stocks it repeatedly all summer. It's under snow and closed to vehicles from roughly November to May.
Worms and PowerBait from the shore or the fishing pier, small spinners, or a fly rod with a dry fly along the inlet side in the evening. Standard limits. The lake gets crowded on summer weekends — the dozens of other lakes within a few miles of the highway are just as good and empty.
