Fishing Pineview Reservoir: what to know
Pineview is the big reservoir in Ogden Valley, 15 minutes above Ogden, at 4,900 feet with beaches, marinas, and a lot of summer boat traffic. Its claim to fame is tiger muskie — the state record came from here — along with smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie, perch, and bluegill.
Tiger muskie fish best in May–June and again in September–October along the weedy shorelines and the Middle Inlet. Bass and crappie peak in spring; summer is early mornings before the boats. Ice fishing for perch and crappie happens in cold winters.
Muskie: big bucktails, swimbaits, and jerkbaits along the weed edges, with a wire leader and a figure-eight at the boat. Bass: plastics around the docks and rocks; crappie on small jigs in the coves. Tiger muskie have a strict size and limit rule to protect the trophy fishery — see the regulations section.
