Fishing Sand Hollow Reservoir: what to know
Sand Hollow is the red-sand, clear-water reservoir east of St. George at 3,000 feet, in a state park with a big beach, two ramps, and a reputation as Utah's best largemouth bass lake — double-digit fish come out of it. Bluegill and crappie fill in, and the water is warm enough to fish year-round.
Bass move up in February and March, spawn in April and May in the sandy shallows, and fish well through fall. Summer is early and late in the heat, with bluegill on the docks all day for kids. Winter slows but never stops — a warm January afternoon still produces on slow-moving plastics.
Sight-fishing bedding bass in spring with plastics and jigs; in summer, deep-diving cranks and drop-shot on the rock walls and the dam face; topwater at first light. Bluegill on small jigs and worms. Sand Hollow has largemouth size rules — see the regulations section — and heavy summer recreation traffic; fish early.
