Fishing Starvation Reservoir: what to know

Starvation is a 3,300-acre reservoir on the Strawberry River near Duchesne, at 5,700 feet, with a state park and a mix that's unusual for Utah: walleye and smallmouth bass along with browns and rainbows. It's less crowded than the Wasatch Front reservoirs and known for big walleye.

Walleye spawn on the rocky points in April and fish well into June; smallmouth from May through September; browns move toward the inlet in fall. Ice fishing for walleye, perch, and rainbows through the winter.

Walleye: jigs and minnows or crawler harnesses on the rocky drop-offs at dusk. Smallmouth: tubes and crankbaits on the rocks. Trout: trolling pop gear or shore bait near the inlet. Check the walleye limit in the regulations section.
