Quick tactics for wiper (white × striped bass hybrid)
A sterile white bass × striper cross built for violence: wipers roam open water in wolf packs and blitz shad on the surface. When Willard Bay "boils," it's the fastest fishing in Utah — run-and-gun, cast into the melee, hold on. Between boils they're a sonar-and-patience fish.
Gizzard shad above all; also minnows, crayfish, and anything fleeing in a hurry.
- Topwater poppers or pencil baits cast into surface boils
- Shad-profile swimbaits and jerkbaits counted down along dikes
- Trolled crankbaits to locate roaming schools
- Heavy spoons jigged when they push bait deep
